By now, we’ve all heard about the new trend that’s been going around: the #NoMakeup Movement.
In case youmissed it, it all beganwith a Lenny Letter article by Alicia Keys. She took readers through the empowering moment when she had a photo shoot for her new album sans makeup (and, might I add, looked absolutely beautiful).
Because of this article, the #NoMakeup trend went viral. Many women, including a few celebrities (Gabrielle Union, Oprah Winfrey and muchmore), have posted selfies of themselves bare-facedusing the hashtag #NoMakeup.
Many people who hoppedonto the no makeup bandwagonhave said how empowered they feel withouthaving to use makeup every day. They say how happy they are that their mornings are now hassle-free.
Before I go any further,I want to say that I love and respect the reasoning behind the campaign. I fully support women empowering themselves in any way they see fit. No one should feel liketheyhaveto wear makeup daily if they want to feelaccepted by society. Everyone should have the opportunity to wear as much, or as little, makeup as they wish without being judged.
What I cannot support is when people tear down the women who do choose to wear makeup.Makeup is not a terrible thing, and people whodecide to wear it should not be shamed for doing so.
I’ve gotten several comments from former male companionssaying things such as, You know, women only wear makeup for guys and You should wear less makeup. Note that I said former male companions.
What a woman decides to put on her face is her decision, and her decision alone. Why is it that some men have this preconceived notion that everything a woman does is for him? I digress. That is another article for another day.
Going back to my main point, makeup is an art. If you log in to Instagram, you can seethousands of videos that showcasethe skills of makeup gurus in new, innovative ways.
I don’t think I’m only speaking for myself when I say that I find makeup extremely therapeutic. In this article by Allure, Renee Jacques explains the therapeutic effects from people going through skincare and makeup routines. For me, themeticulous rituals I doday after day can provide a sense of control.
Makeup not only provides me and my fellow makeup lovers with a therapeutic process, but it also allows me to explore and display my creativity in a fun, eye-catching way. Makeup has gone a long way since sponge-tip applicators and squeeze-tube lip glosses (no offense, Morphe Brushes).
Women and men from various places and tracks of life have displayed their makeup expertise to encourage others to show offtheir own creativity. Because of this, many individualshave started to find some real enjoyment in playing and incorporating different colors and techniques into their everyday makeup routines.
Just because one person expresses themselves differently doesn’t mean they’re wrong for doing so. It means they’re introducing you to a newway of thinking. And you can either take it atface value and judge them, or you can embrace it and support them.
If you can’t tell by now, I’m a huge lover of makeup. I have a fair collection of shadows, highlighters and lipsticks. I wear them whenever I please, depending on what mood I’m in. I have the right to cake it on, just likeyou have the right to go bare-faced.
Being yourself isn’t a trend. No one should ever feel scared to be themselves, even if that means they have eyelashes stretching to their brows or they only have moisturizer on.
Do you, boo.

For better or worse, sisters always know best. Or, at least they think they do.
As a younger sibling, you assume those five years your sister existed on Earth without you were somehow incredibly meaningful.
In reality, she probably spent those years learning to eat Cheerios and chattering to herself in a private language, but thats not how it feels.
So, when it comes to beauty, it only makes sense youd listen to your sisters. Obviously, they had all this time to learn about applying lipstick correctly before you even existed.
According to Kendall, big sis Kim taught her the most important trick of all: the value of a dollar.
Apparently, Kim sticks to Finesse shampoo to achieve her shiniest locks. A bottle will run you a little less than $3 at your local drugstore.
All this from the woman who reportedly once flew to Paris to cure a pregnancy craving? Shocking.
Kendall told Allure,
It just works for my hair and makes it so silky. My hair has held up so much that every hairstylist has been like, Why is your hair still so amazing?
For a woman who changes hair colors and styles as frequently as Kendall (not to mention all that heat styling), keeping strands soft has to be a challenge.
Plus, trying a $3 bottle of shampoo and finding out you dont like it is far less of a gamble than grabbing a bottle off any random shelf in Sephora and handing over your monthly rent check in exchange for it.
Wondering what else the glam sisters have passed on to Kendall? From Khlo, shes learned a serious appreciation for eyebrows that look as if they might be feral.
Kourtney, the denmother of the family, believes in never touching your facial skin or ripping apart pimples.
And from Kylie, Kendalls only gotten a healthy fear of wearing too much makeup on her face. Thats my phrasing, by the way. Kendall actually says Kylie believes more is more.
Beauty aside, its nice the sisters still bond over normal-person activities. You know, like telling your sister the way she wears her eyeliner is weird.
When it comes to family, nitpicking and unsolicited advice are both signs of love.

Pop megastar Lady Gaga just revealed on her Little Monsters social network that her forthcoming album, Artpop, will be an app-based multimedia experience for iPhone, iPad, mobile and the desktop.
The experience will be completely interactive with chats, films for every song, extra music, content, gaga inspired games, fashion updates, magazines, and more still in the works, she says.
Gaga announced the name of the album on Twitter in August, at which time she shared these Instagrams:
You inspired me to create something that communicated with images, because YOU do, YOU communicate with me and each other with .gifs and pictures, and artwork, graphics ALL DAY 24/7/ YOU’RE an ARTPOP generation, Gaga adds.
Artpop, which will also be available in physical and digital formats, is rumored to come out in late 2012 or early 2013. Gaga suggests fans start asking for IPADS FOR XMAS!! hinting possibly at a post-holiday release.
Gaga isn’t the first artist to take a more app-centric approach to her album releases. Bjork’s 2011 album, Biophilia, was available as an iPad app and was partially inspired by the iPad’s touch screen technology.
What do you think of the way musicians are using digital and social to enhance and augment the album experience? Let us know in the comments.
Here’s how the site looked like in February (it has much of the same functionality now with a few tweaks):
